"Democracy can only flourish, as your founding fathers realized, when political leaders and those whom they represent are guided by truth and bring the wisdom born of firm moral principle to decisions affecting the life and future of the nation,"

Help And Prayer Is Needed In North Dakota

North Dakota is suffering great loss due to flooding. The entire state is under a flood watch, and the river has risen to over 100 year levels. Estimates say waters may rise to even higher levels of 43 feet or more in the next few days.

Some 1,000 residents near Bismarck were evacuated on the 24th, because of flooding of the Missouri River, according to a CNN report. Officials are worried it could crest in Fargo, which has more than 99,000 residents.

This incident is fast becoming a Katrina type tragedy, with threats of levy breakage, and months before the water is expected to lower. Many are now homeless, and need our help and prayers.

President Obama, has not yet visited the area on ground or even by air. Instead he looked at photos to declare the area a national emergency. His only statement is that the flooding proves Global warming is a reality.

We all know that criticism was piled on President Bush for his lack of action and concern. Yet, no criticism has been made to President Obama for doing nothing but making the tragedy a political issue for climate change.

Senator Conrad of north Dakota, made a statement on behalf of the president:

“When you’re in the middle of the fight, that’s not the time to come,” Conrad said. “We need to have all hands on deck to fight this flood, and when a president comes in, that can be a big distraction in the middle of the crisis. It’s better before or after.”

In 1997 North Dakota also suffered severe flooding and President Clinton visited the area to encouraged the people and assured them that federal help and money was on the way.

People of North Dakota in 1997, knew that the president cared and their government was working to help them in their time of need. It's true he also made the flooding a political issue for global warming like Obama, but at least he was not missing in action (MIA) like President Obama has been. Regardless of the politics we as Catholics and citizens of this nation need to offer our prayers and support for resident of North Dakota. Here is a list of agencies you can contact if you want to offer your personal support for the area.
